Vegan on a cruise? Hurtigruten goes vegan!
What’s that cooking in the galley? It’s our all new vegan menu!
Hurtigruten’s all new vegan cruise menu is here!
We are seeing a growing interest in healthier and greener alternatives when it comes to dining – not just from vegetarians and vegans – but also for those looking to eat healthier and to minimize their environmental impact. Since February 2017, all 11 Norwegian coastal ships departing from Bergen have offered an 11-day, 3-course full vegan menu as part of our Norway's Coastal Kitchen concept.
Vegan friendly cruise – now you can eat healthier and greener
For many vegans, cruise travel has been difficult to realize. Many traditional cruises and cruise menus have rarely been something special to boast. In addition, many of the dishes consist milk or butter, which makes it impossible for vegans to eat them. Eating vegan or vegetarian while cruising seems to be a nightmare… Until now. Hurtigruten wants to reduce the climate footprint, as well as make our cruise voyages as accessible to everyone as possible. Therefore, you can now eat all vegan on Hurtigruten’s Norwegian costal cruises.
Vegan food on Norwegian cruise
After months of trailing and refining our new menu the verdict is in – to dine on Hurtigruten’s vessels is just as delicious when done vegan. The menu provides and introduction to select ingredients’ role in Norwegian and international culinary history and comes with fun facts and stories of their own. To make sure that the menu is nutritionally sound it has been designed in collaboration with accredited nutritionists as well as Mari Hult, a vegan chef from the coastal city of Stavanger and author of vegetarbloggen.no – the most widely read vegetarian/vegan blog in Norway. On the topic of the menu she says:
“Vegan food is sustainable, animal- friendly, good for your health and, when it’s prepared the way that Hurtigruten does it here, it’s incredibly tasty too! I am so pleased and proud that one of Norway’s biggest brands with one of the best kitchens we have has been so thorough in offering this fantastic menu - one that’s not just for vegans but for anyone who wants to try a “greener” way of eating. It has been a pleasure to witness the process that the chefs have followed, and I wish it was me who was sitting down to eat on the world’s most beautiful cruise right now.”
