Tromsø Wilderness Centre is situated in a scenic area on Kvaløya Island, with fantastic views of the ocean and mountains. You’ll spend time meeting and getting to know some of the more than 250 huskies and husky pups that live here.
The centre’s founder, Tove Sørensen, has over 30 years of experience with dog sled racing. Her participation in the Iditarod, the world’s longest dog sled race, was honoured with the “Most Inspirational Musher” Award. She’s also the first woman ever to compete more than 20 times in the world's second longest race, Finnmarksløpet.
On this tour, you can learn about the world of competitive dog sledding, husky care, and breeding. You’ll even see a movie about Tove Sørensen’s journey through Finnmarksløpet. Afterwards, join the Wilderness Centre’s guide in exploring the plant and bird life around the centre, before meeting back in a traditional Sámi lavvo (tent) for a hot drink and a slice of cake.
