Spring Voyages in Norway
After a long, dark winter, the sun reappears and infuses new life along Norway’s coastline in March and April. Daylight returns, snow and ice start to melt, rivers emerge and green colours dot the landscape in the south. Up north above the Arctic Circle, white mountain tops show the remaining traces of winter. Join us and experience three seasons in one journey during coastal Norway’s reawakening!
Join us as we celebrate the return of spring in Norway and experience three seasons in one journey. Perhaps the most underestimated of the Norwegian seasons, other highlights on the spring sailings include:
- Experience the emergence of spring and nature in bloom along Norway’s coastline
- Take advantage of ideal ice and sea fishing conditions for amazing excursions
- Marvel at the incredibly clear light and crisp air of the Arctic
- Participate in coastal Norway’s many springtime celebrations
As you depart Bergen, spring is in the air and wildlife emerges from hibernation. As you sail north, you’ll encounter pockets of spring and autumnal weather and the warmth of the sun welcomes back the birds. Above the Arctic Circle, the sun may be shining but the land remains covered in snow – so you can still take part in snowmobiling, dog sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing excursions!
Last chance to catch the Northern Lights
It´s still too early to see the Midnight Sun, but not too late to experience the Northern Lights. Check the aurora forecast and if conditions are favourable, you may be in luck! Find a spot on deck around midnight (or when the sun has set), bundle up in a woollen blanket and watch the show or photograph the lights for bragging rights.
Fantastic fjords
During our springtime sailings, we visit beautiful Lyngenfjord, with its majestic mountain backdrop and marvellous nature. Look skywards to see some of the millions of migrating birds overhead, returning to nest along Norway´s Arctic coastline.

Always learning on board
We invite you to explore our many exciting on-board activities and thrilling shore excursions during late winter/early spring. Learn about the history and culture of the places we see in on-board lectures and presentations or selected land excursions including eight different hikes.
Experts on all things Norway
Discover the region´s flora, fauna and history from our knowledgeable Expedition Teams. Take part in an ice or sea fishing excursion, or join an outing in the still snowy white wilderness and experience the wonder of Arctic light and nature.
We take you closer to marine life in the ocean, migratory birds nesting in the cliffs, and the people inhabiting Norway´s remote coastal communities.
Fabulously fresh food
One of the highlights of sailing with Hurtigruten is the food, especially fresh fish. Stopping at so many ports along Norway´s coast provides the perfect opportunity to source fresh local foods directly from the producers.
Many of the ingredients we use on board come straight from the sea – cod, scallops and Arctic char. There are also specialties from Norway´s interior, including reindeer, extra tender beef sirloin, and farm-fresh dairy products.
Wear layers on a spring voyage in Norway
As we are likely to encounter three seasons during one sailing in March and April, it´s important to pack right and layer up. We advise bringing a woollen sweater, warm socks, a thick scarf, winter boots, warm and waterproof trousers and jacket, a hat and gloves. The on-board dress code is casual and relaxed. Don´t forget your binoculars, camera and sunglasses.
Here comes the sun - join us as we head into spring and enjoy the delights of the season (or three)!
